What a truly wonderful experience! All, and I mean each and every one of the perhaps dozen or so people from the Trading Post that we had interactions with were friendly, professional and very accommodating and helpful.
My daughter and I booked a trip on the lower Yough for July 3rd, 2013. The trip was superb and exciting with fun for all. We didn't see a single person without a smile including the 11 year old girl in our boat who at first was scared and very reticent to raft at all but who, in large part thanks to our great guide Teryl, ended up constantly smiling and by the end of the trip “riding the bull” on the nose of the raft thru some minor rapids. We had a nice picnic lunch half way through and plenty of thrills and in some (unguided rafts) spills along the way but all quite safely due the an outstanding staff. I recommend those who do not know the river take the guided trip. All of the guides are very good and will put you through the best routes in the rapids for optimum fun and safety and after you've made it through you'll have time to watch some of those in the unguided rafts fall out! Very entertaining.
We had such a great time that we decided to try the wild Upper Yough on Friday, July 5th. Things were different in that the holiday crowds were stretching all the businesses capacities to the max but again though things were more hectic everyone remained friendly and very accommodating. Because he had done such a wonderful job on our previous trip we requested Teryl for our guide and The Trading Post was quick to accommodate our request despite the inconvenient disruption to their schedule. We did this not only because were we impressed with his knowledge and capability on the river but because he is a very personable, humorous and even tempered young man, quick to encourage you into doing just what he needs in a way that doesn't make you feel inferior or belabored.
Anyway to make a long review short, WE HAD A BLAST! Beware, the upper Yough is not a ride for the timid or those fearful of water and it WILL give you a workout but if you like your thrills and can handle the possibility of occasional spills I'd encourage you to go for it! It is in a word, Awesome! Actually awesome is a word I'd also apply to both the Trading Company and Teryl our guide as well. We'll be back to Ohiopyle. We'll be back to the upper Yough. And when we are we'll be back with the same fine company and the same great guide. Thanks OTP and Thanks Teryl!
P.S. Don't forget to show your appreciation for the hard work of your guide with a tip. They work hard to keep you happy and safe.
